VC of GB v DORKING

20th MARCH 2018

This, always most enjoyable fixture, took place on Tuesday 20th March. Although the GB Vets have been on the losing end for the last few years, surely the tables would be turned this year? But with Dave Smith at No.1 unable to play at the last minute we knew it may be an uphill battle. And so it proved – we lost 1/5!

First on was the redoubtable duo of Lance Kinder and John Woodliffe. They proved too strong for their opponents and won 3/1.

Nigel Belle at No.5 and Dave Parker (last minute order change to No.1) lost 0/3 although Dave’s games were very close, the second 19/21!

Both Alan Boulden No.2 and Ash Chakraborty No.3 having been 0/2 down, pulled back a game but both went down 13/15 and 11/15 respectively in the 4th.

It was only Bryan Francis No.4 whose see-saw match went to 5, but he eventually succumbed in the 5th.

So, results wise, disappointing for the GB Vets but all was made good by excellent post match banter and a fabulous meal prepared by Bob Gray’s wife Harriet.

It was also good to see Don Ayton and Jim Cattermole who came to support.

‘Could do better’ and ‘Will do better’ next year was ringing in GB Vets ears as we all wended our way home after another thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Full results were as follows:

1 Dave Andrews beat Dave Parker 3-0
