VC of GB v HURLINGHAM

16th MARCH 2018

The GB Vets fielded a very mature and experienced team with an average age of 68 years but narrowly lost 3/2.

At number 1 John Goodrich, the national over 65 champion, beat his hard hitting opponent Oliver Slack 3/0. John played a steady good length with too much variation for Oliver to cope with.

We lost the remaining singles matches. Ash Chakraborty lost 3/1 to Anthony Shewell with both players below par from recent bouts of flu. Bryan Francis lost 3/1 to Sebatian Paul after four close and well contested games. Ron Walker lost 3/0 to Hugo Wilson a very fast opponent exactly one half his age!

Finally John Woodliffe and Lance Kinder won a close doubles against Paul Lubbock and Matthew Eltringham 3/2. The match lasted nearly one hour and John and Lance seemed to get stronger the longer the match lasted much to the dismay of their younger opponents!

Afterwards we enjoyed the superb hospitality that the Hurlingham Club always provide.

Full results were as follows:
