18th APRIL 2019
Always a fabulous fixture, always great competitive
fun and this year was no exception.
4 singles and 2 doubles all matches PARS to 15.
Singles first: Alan Boulden at No.3,
after a shaky start just winning the first 17/15, then
settled down to a convincing 3/0 win. Graham
Jolly at No.4 had an easier time and won easily
3/0.
New member Matt Farrar (who plays at
the same Club as Dave Smith) is an
excellent addition to the GB Vets. A high quality match
with Matt showing his strength and in the end also his
fitness winning 3/1.
Neil Davies at No.2 looked to be in control at 2/1 up
but his opponent had other ideas and he gradually ground
out a 3/2 win, a superb match.
Doubles: The everlasting duo of John Woodliffe
and Lance Kinder having won the first
then succumbed to their more consistent opponents and
lost 1/3.
There then followed the final match of the evening, a
match of high quality and drama. With Dave Smith
and his partner, England O75 captain Nigel Belle,
they battled hard and then battled some more but
eventually lost a thoroughly enjoyable battle 1/3.
So a very honourable draw 3/3 but most
importantly a 12/10 win in games for the GB Vets!
Our thanks to Karl Newland of Ashtead for arranging
another most enjoyable evening. Roll on next year!
Dave Smith,
Match Manager
