21st July 2023
A welcome return of the match vs Limpsfield on 21st
July.
Unfortunate injuries to the Limpsfield No.2 and the GB
Vets No.5 late in the day meant we made the match
4-a-side.
Fergus Burnett at No. 1 and
Mandy Akin at No. 4 went on first. Mandy opted
to play PARS to 11 and although the first game was
contested but losing 10/12 the next two also went
Limpsfield’s way – 1/0 down.
Fergus, and the rest of the team, played to PARS 15. A
high quality game, Fergus taking the first 15/10 but
then he was always under pressure losing the next 3 –
10, 10, 12. 2/0 down.
Cathy Ruffle at No. 2, having won the
WO45 title at the British Open in June, was again in
fine form and battled her way to a 3/1 victory over the
Limpsfield Manager/Captain.
Dan Sweeney at No.3 went on to make it
a draw not a defeat. Having lost the first, he won the
next 2 and at match ball in the 4th all was looking good
for a draw. His dogged opponent however saved a further
2 match balls to win the 4th 16/14 and then took the
5th. A great match.
So a Limpsfield win 3/1
Our thanks to Colin Bruce at Limpsfield for organising a
most enjoyable evening which ended with a fabulous meal,
much banter and a hope that a rematch could be arranged
later in the year.
