Thankfully, this year there were no serious accidents on the motorway to prevent all players from arriving for this great annual match, as did happen last year! First on was the new partnership of Nigel Belle & Mark Ainley vs old adversaries of Messrs Buckley and Heron. After a shaky first game losing 13/15 they came through worthy 3/1 winners. Both Philip Courtenay-Luck at No.3 and Peter Young at No.4, appeared to be in with a chance of winning at 1/1, but their opposition was too good in the end and they both lost 1/3. Derek Wright at No.2, a member of Dorking as well as GB Vets, had a tough match, contesting the first 2 games but eventually losing 0/3. Steve Jackson at No.1 had an excellent, thrilling match against team captain Rob Crayston. At 2/1 and 10/10 in the 4th the match surely was going to be his, but no he lost that one 15/17. The final game produced some brilliant squash, but Steve dominated at the end and won 15/11. So a Dorking win 3/2 An excellent meal prepared by Rob and his team, some liquid refreshment, a few words of thanks from both team Match Managers ended a very enjoyable evening. It was good to see Bob Gray’s wife Harriet there supporting.
